The State Bar of New Mexico is pleased to announce the appointment of DeAnza Valencia as its Out-of-State District Commissioner on the Board of Bar Commissioners.
Valencia serves as Senior Legal Counsel and Government Affairs Professional with Beatty & Wozniak, P.C., an energy and natural resources firm headquartered in Denver, CO. She will represent the interests and perspectives of State Bar members who reside outside New Mexico.
Valencia has over two decades of experience in government affairs, legislative advocacy and coalition-building at the state and federal levels. Her prior work has included representing broad constituencies across jurisdictions and developing consensus among stakeholders with varied interests.
She holds a Juris Doctor from the University of New Mexico School of Law, a Master of Science in Justice Studies from Arizona State University, and bachelor’s degrees in government and criminal justice from New Mexico State University.
Valencia is active in bar and public-service leadership. She is past chair of the State Bar’s Elder Law Section, a former member of the New Mexico Women’s Bar Association and she currently serves on the State Bar’s Committee on Women and the Legal Profession. She also serves as a board member of the New Mexico State University Foundation and the New Mexico Hispanic Bar Association Foundation.
The Board of Bar Commissioners is the State Bar’s governing body, responsible for developing policies, procedures and regulations; monitoring the organization’s financial performance, programs and services; and advocating for the State Bar and its members.
