Become a New Mexico specialist using prior certification through a national or state legal specialization program

In accordance with LS Policies and Procedures Section III(D)(ii)), meeting all requirements for certification in New Mexico and having been certified as a specialist by “an appropriate authority” or organization accredited by the ABA, an attorney can apply for Specialization as approved by the Legal Specialization Commission. Such programs that may qualify for approval by the Commission are specialization programs certified by the ABA or other private organizations requiring a test.

Private Organizations with ABA Accredited Lawyer Certification Programs

A number of states also have legal specialization certifications that require an exam including Texas, North Carolina, Arizona, and California.
