MCLE Transcript Explained and More

Live and/or Self-Study credits rolling form Prior Year to Current Year

  • Sum of credits carried from the previous compliance year.  Rule 18-201(D) NMRA & Rule 18-204(C) NMRA allows a maximum of 10 general and 2 ethic credits, 4 of which can be self-study.

Current Year Total – This is the total amount of credits earned in the current year.


Live and/or Self-Study Credits rolling from Current Year to the Next Year

  • Sum of credits carrying forward from the current compliance year to the next compliance year.  Rule 18-201(D) NMRA & Rule 18-204(C) NMRA allows a maximum of 10 general and 2 ethic credits, 4 of which can be self-study to apply to the next compliance year.

Excess Credits for Current Year. 

  • Excess Credits occur if carry over credits for the Next Compliance Year total more than 10 general & 2 ethics, 4 of which can be self-study.  These credits will not apply to any compliance year.

Ethic Credit Rules Under Rule 18-201(C) NMRA, ethic credits beyond the 2 required for the current compliance year are applied as follows:

  • First, to any general credit deficit in the current compliance year:
  • Second, to the next compliance year up to 2 ethic credits:
  • Third, to the next compliance year as general credits.

MCLE Compliance Review

  • Rule 18-301 NMRA states each member of the state bar in active status is responsible for periodically reviewing their MCLE record and reporting any errors or omissions for the compliance year no later than March 1 of the current licensing year. Failure to timely report errors or omissions in the MCLE record may result in penalties.

More Information

  • New Mexico requires 10 General, and 2 Ethic credits every year to be compliant. You may only obtain 4 Self-Study credits per year - Rule 18-201 (A)(B)(C) NMRA & Rule 18-204 (A)(B)(C) NMRA.  Credits for the compliance year are due no later than February 1 of the immediate next year. Rule 24-102(C)(3)
  • Each year the transcript will list the courses you took in that year.  It will not list the courses taken in another year to make you compliant in the current year.  The transcript will list the Provider name, Course Title, Date, how many general or ethic credits received, if the course was considered self-study or if you received teaching credits.  Course you took in another year to make you compliant in the current year will be listed in the transcript for that year.
