About the State Bar of New Mexico

The State Bar of New Mexico is a professional membership organization of attorneys licensed to practice law in New Mexico. The organization was established in 1886 and is currently a 501(c)(6) corporation. The mission of the State Bar is to be a united and inclusive organization serving the legal profession and the public.

Leadership

The State Bar is governed by a volunteer Board of Bar Commissioners, all of whom are licensed attorneys elected by their peers from designated bar commissioner districts throughout New Mexico. Erinna M. "Erin" Atkins is the State Bar President for 2024.

The State Bar’s Executive Team and staff help to execute member projects and goals.

The public service and educational arm of the State Bar is the New Mexico State Bar Foundation which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation established in 1991. Learn how the Bar Foundation assists the public and the services it provides. Center for Legal Education

The Bar Foundation houses the State Bar’s continuing legal education course provider: the Center for Legal Education. Member dues do not subsidize CLE operations. Find a program in our one-stop shop for affordable and convenient courses including live and self-study.
