The State Bar of New Mexico Launches the Bar Bulletin: Commemorative Edition Honoring America’s 250th Anniversary

The State Bar of New Mexico (“the State Bar”) is proud to announce the launch of its special publication, the Bar Bulletin: Commemorative Edition, created in recognition of the nation's 250th anniversary, exploring more than 250 years of New Mexico's legal history.

“As we observe the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, it is altogether fitting that the State Bar publishes the Commemorative Edition of the Bar Bulletin to recognize the historic journey of the legal profession in New Mexico and its enduring commitment to the rule of law,” said Chief Justice Julie J. Vargas.

Structured chronologically, the publication traces the evolution of New Mexico's legal institutions and profession through original historical articles, commissioned artwork, archival photography, timelines and multimedia experiences, creating an immersive exploration of the state's legal heritage.

QR codes throughout the publication provide access to exclusive videos and expanded online content.

“This is a monumental year for both our nation and our legal community,” 2026 State Bar President Allison H. Block-Chavez stated. “As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary, the State Bar of New Mexico also marks its 140th anniversary—a reminder of our profession’s enduring commitment to justice and the rule of law. We felt a profound responsibility to commemorate these milestones by creating something our members would not only enjoy today, but preserve for generations to come.”

“The nation's 250th anniversary presented us with a unique opportunity to create something truly special for the legal community,” State Bar of New Mexico Executive Director Richard B. Spinello remarked. “As the State Bar's flagship publication, the Bar Bulletin brought that vision to life through a commemorative edition unlike anything we have published before.”

The Bar Bulletin: Commemorative Edition is available free to the public at www.barbulletin250.org

The State Bar of New Mexico was organized in 1886 and is composed of more than 9,000 members. Its purposes are to aid the courts in administering justice and preserving the rule of law, and to foster a high standard of integrity and competence within the legal profession.
