Basics of Trust Accounting: How to Comply with Disciplinary Board Rule 17-204

The Center for Legal Education provides a Basics of Trust Accounting course approved by the New Mexico Disciplinary Board that fulfills the Rule 17-204 requirement.  The Center’s Basics of Trust Accounting course is available in two formats: self-study and live/webinar. Check the Center’s CLE course listings for the next scheduled live offering, and an on-demand offering is continuously available here.  Attorneys are urged to exercise caution to assure that they are completing an approved course such as that offered by the Center for Legal Education.

Completing the Center for Legal Education Basics of Trust Accounting course will also provide 1.0 EP credit toward annual CLE credit requirements.

Rule 17-204, paragraph C provides: 
“Every attorney subject to these rules shall, no less than once every three (3) years, attend a continuing legal education course offered or approved by the Disciplinary Board and approved for one (1) hour or more of continuing legal education credit by the New Mexico Minimum Continuing Legal Education Board on the topic of client trust account procedures and maintenance. An attorney who is exempted from the terms of this rule under Paragraph E of this rule shall take such a course within one (1) year of any change in circumstance that results in this rule becoming applicable to that attorney.”
