Who We Are

Started in 1987, the New Mexico Lawyer Assistance Program focuses on confidential, professional, and peer assistance to help individuals identify and address concerns related to alcohol and other drugs, depression, and other mental health or emotional challenges. NM LAP endeavors to improve the well-being of lawyers, law students, paralegals, law clerks, and other legal staff through support, education, and early intervention, with the goal of ensuring every legal professional is healthy and fit to practice.

What We Do

Our Mission

The New Mexico Lawyer Assistance Program (NM LAP) provides immediate, CONFIDENTIAL and continuing assistance, support and resources to all legal professionals and their direct family members who are struggling or living with substance abuse, compulsive behavior, psychological conditions, and relationship conflicts that affect well-being and day-to-day living.

Our Services

Off the Record Support Group: Every Monday night at 5:30 p.m. Zoom only.

Off the Record Support Group meets at 5:30 p.m. (MST) on Mondays by Zoom. The intention of this support group is the sharing of anything you are feeling, trying to manage, or struggling with. It is intended as a way to connect with colleagues, to know you are not in this alone and feel a sense of belonging. We laugh, we cry, we BE together. Call 505-228-1948 or 505-797-6003.

The Other NM Bar Meeting!

The State Bar of New Mexico’s New Mexico Lawyer Assistance Program proudly presents to you The Other NM Bar Meeting — a CONFIDENTIAL traditional 12-step meeting for legal professionals. Open to all lawyers, law students, judges, and other legal professionals, the meeting’s purpose is to provide a safe space for people to support one another in their desire to stop drinking and using.

The Other NM Bar Meeting meets in person every Thursday evening from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. (MT) at the First Unitarian Church in Albuquerque, N.M. For those unable to make it in person, there will be an option to join telephonically in the future.
