Youth around the state of New Mexico who have had contact with the Juvenile Justice System and/or Children’s Court.
Judging is done, anonymously, in Albuquerque.
Theme and Art Medium:
Each year, there is a different art medium for the children to decorate in accordance to a yearly theme. The children are encouraged to write a small blurb about their art piece.
Provided by the Children’s Law Section through donations made by members of the judiciary, the State Bar, and the community.
Supplies are usually mailed or delivered in August and must be returned in September. Typically, a little over a month is given to the children to work on the project.
Prizes are typically in the form of gift cards to Target or other large retailers. Prize amounts range from $15 to $100. Generally, there are first place, second place, and third place winners, along with more than ten honorable mention winners.
Each fall, an Art Contest Awards Reception is held in Albuquerque. The participants, their families, and all court personnel (any and all who work with these children) are invited. Awards are officially announced at this time.
