Credit Reporting and Debt Collection (60 minutes – 1.0 G)

This session will provide practical advice for dealing with credit reporting issues and abusive debt collection. All of us, both attorneys and our clients, can have our lives disrupted by inaccurate credit reports, identity theft, and abusive debt collection. This presentation will provide a nuts and bolts explanation of how to deal with these problems in our own lives, and the legal remedies available when clients are affected.

Nicholas Mattison is a consumer protection attorney at the law firm of Feferman, Warren & Mattison. His firm represents people harmed by credit reporting agencies, car dealers, banks (including for unauthorized bank and credit card charges), solar companies, predatory lenders, debt collectors and all manner of unscrupulous businesses. His practice includes both individual and class action cases.

 


Addressing the Housing Crisis in New Mexico (60 minutes – 1.0 G)

It is no secret that there is a severe housing crisis nationally and in New Mexico. This session will look at the factors that led to the housing crisis in New Mexico, discuss data around what the housing landscape looks like throughout the state, and offer policy and legislative solutions that could help our state address some of the most acute aspects of this crisis.

Allison Freedman is an Assistant Professor of Law at the University of New Mexico School of Law, where she teaches primarily in the Economic Justice Clinic. Her research focuses on civil rights and housing law and the ways statutory and regulatory regimes can affect, stigmatize, or subordinate underserved and indigent communities. She is also the co-founder of the New Mexico Center for Housing Law (NMCHL), a nonprofit dedicated to promoting housing stability and justice for the people of the state of New Mexico. And she is a co-host of Personal Jurisdiction, a podcast dedicated to helping lawyers find fulfilling careers.


Medical Psilocybin in New Mexico: What Lawyers Need to Know  (60 minutes – 1.0 G)

Medical Psilocybin programs are an exciting extension of pre-existing psychedelic-assisted therapy modalities. New Mexico will soon implement its own Medical Psilocybin Program, and when it does, new legal issues will arise affecting healthcare, corporate, succession, cyber and other areas of law. In this session, participants will learn about the New Mexico Medical Psilocybin Act from an experienced Psychedelic Law attorney, and will leave more prepared for the effects of this exciting legislative development. 

Victoria J. Cvitanovic is a lawyer specializing in Psychedelic Medicine, Cannabis, Healthcare and Corporate Law. With the women of Rudick Law Group, PLLC, she assists healthcare practitioners and businesses navigate highly regulated industries. She is also a passionate Zen Buddhist, a patient advocate and a person living with a disability committed to crusading for accessibility. In addition to her law practice, Victoria serves as the President of the Board for Kinship Center, a senior center offering holistic wellness programming for people over 65. Victoria is particularly proud of her public service as a prosecutor and an Assistant Attorney General, her role as co-founder of Sober Zen, a meditation group open to anyone interested in the intersection of sobriety and meditation, and of her CLE program, Mindfulness for Prosecutors and Victim Advocates.
