Modest Means Helpline

Launched in Fall of 2022, the Modest Means Helpline is a civil legal telephone helpline and pro bono referral service for New Mexico residents of modest means. Helping New Mexicans meeting up to 500% of federal poverty guidelines, the Modest Means Helpline is one of New Mexicans' most useful resources in seeking legal referrals in matters of civil justice. Workshops & Legal Clinics

The State Bar of New Mexico and New Mexico State Bar Foundation routinely host a variety of workshops and legal clinics. The Consumer Debt/Bankruptcy Workshop, Divorce Options Workshop and LREP Workshop each occur monthly and all provide educational and insightful content to attendees seeking advice on specific topics. New Mexico Free Legal Answers

ABA Free Legal Answers is a virtual legal advice portal where qualifying users request brief advice about a specific civil legal issue and pro bono volunteer attorneys provide information and basic legal advice. There is no fee for the use of this system of for the advice and information provided by the attorney. Ask-A-Lawyer Day Call-In

The Ask-A-Lawyer Day Call-In Program, hosted by the State Bar of New Mexico's Young Lawyers Division, is an annual event where volunteer attorneys can register to provide free legal advice and assistance telephonically over the course of a few hours. Client Protection and Fee Arbitration

The Commissions on Client Protection is a statewide body whose purpose is to promote public confidence in the administration of justice and the integrity of the legal profession by reimbursing losses cause by the dishonest conduct of lawyers admitted and licensed to practice law in the courts of New Mexico. The State Bar of New Mexico Fee Arbitration Program provides clients and attorneys with an out-of-court method of resolving fee disputes that is expeditious, confidential, inexpensive, and impartial. This voluntary program can help avoid difficult, lengthy, and often expensive lawsuits. Arbitration can be requested by either the client or attorney.
