Bridge the Gap Mentorship Program

Bridge the Gap Mentorship Program

The transition from law school and the study of law to actual legal practice can be a challenging and stressful time for a new attorney. The goal of the Bridge the Gap (BTG) Mentorship program is to ease that transition by providing practical information regarding best practices and by pairing new attorneys with a mentor who will help introduce the new attorney to the legal community.

After you are admitted to the State Bar of New Mexico, you will be automatically enrolled in the program. This is known as your ‘year of admission.’ The following year, the year you are an attorney on January 1, is your participation year. In order to complete the program in your participation year, you will need to:

  1. Complete required continuing legal education (CLE) courses through the Center for Legal Education.
  • As a new attorney, you will be enrolled into all BTG CLEs. After you are enrolled you will receive an email letting you know you have been enrolled. If you have not received an email, you are not enrolled yet. If you have questions about continuing legal education courses, please contact the Center for Legal Education at cleonline@sbnm.org, or 505-797-6020.
  1. Find, contact, and complete 5 hours with a mentor.
  2. Pay $300 Bridge the Gap fee.

Once all components of the program are complete, the Bridge the Gap Mentorship program fulfills your first year of MCLE requirements.
